As a Timber Product Estimator (also known as a detailer/designer) you'll contribute to the environment by producing one of the world's most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.
You'll be working in an office in a manufacturing facility, estimating the quantities of materials and time required to produce structural elements from plans provided.
Depending on you and your employer, you may have the opportunity to become a Timber Product or Office Manager.
Role
Your role will vary according to the position, and you’ll usually have the opportunity to learn and perform more than one role.
Your working day could include:
- Taking quantities off plans
- Detailing/designing
- Estimating
- Problem solving
- Using engineering and other computer software systems
- Dealing with production people.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for finding the most efficient way to manufacture to specification and working accurately and safely at all times.
Ideal Attributes
You’ll have good arithmetic and writing skills, problem solving ability and enjoy working alone.
A high level of understanding and commitment to occupational health and safety is essential.
Qualifications
Typically, a timber product estimator has a trade qualification to Certificate IV level.
Familiarity with engineering and product software is essential.
