From checking the starting materials to ensuring the finished product is properly packaged for transport – your role is essential to ensure that the final product is made and delivered to specification.

You'll also know that you're contributing to the environment by producing one of the world’s most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.

Role

Your role will vary according to the position, and you’ll usually have the opportunity to learn more than one skill.

Your working day could include:


  • Taking and analysing samples

  • Using testing equipment and computers

  • Recording results

  • Problem solving

  • Dealing with production people

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for ensuring that engineered timber products are made and delivered to specification and that you are working accurately and safely at all times.

Ideal Attributes

You’ll like the technical side of things, have good arithmetic and writing skills, problem solving ability and enjoy working alone.

A high level of understanding and commitment to occupational health and safety is essential.

Qualifications

Typically, an engineered timber product technician has a trade qualification to Certificate III or IV level.
Familiarity with engineering and product software is useful.
Employers in the forest and wood products industry are very supportive of ongoing training and skills development.
